I make art with words, study literary history, and teach literature and writing. Much of my work explores how our identities and relationships shape our experiences of nature.
Some of my poems are available here, along with two free digital chapbooks. I usually work with found language and assemble it in traditional and invented forms. Information on my books and articles of literary history can be found here. Books I’ve edited, such as teaching anthologies and collections of essays and poems, are linked here.
I studied Literature and Writing at the New College of Florida, and I hold a doctorate in English from Brown University. Currently, I am a professor at Westminster University in Salt Lake City. I’ve also worked as a river guide in Grand Canyon and Southeastern Utah for many years.
